Song and Dance

Tiger Woods started playing golf when he was 6 months old ....... or some other ridiculously young age. And that is why this week it is enormously important that I sign my children up for as many potentially lucrative out-of-school activities as possible. They've got a lot of catching up to do if they are ever to introduce their Papa and me to the life of wealth cascading UP the generations after which we hanker.

So for Z it is to be multisport on a Wednesday afternoon. We're spreading the net wide. I might even get some exercise out of this because it's going to involve me haring across town to ferry him from one place to another between 12H30 and 13H. Which is just as well because I'm certainly not going to have time for any other sporting activities.

However, our budding musical genius has opted out of the musical awareness class he did last year. To be honest I didn't put up too much resistance since the times this year meant that bathtime and dinner would have had to be crammed into a no-doubt fraught half hour. Besides, they like a rough diamond on Star Academy don't they?

For E. it is to be dance on a Tuesday evening. Since it turns out that the troublesome tooth has to be extracted soon, I've put the modelling career on hold. So dance, baby, dance.

As soon as you make 'friends' with other mothers with children doing the same activities the ferrying about will get easier ... taking it in turns is a lot more relaxing.

Fortunately I don't think you'll drive them too hard so they won't become one of those dreary sports celebrities .... hope they make a million any other way!

Apropos satchels, here is the latest post about their tremendous weight in France :

I know exactly how you feel Lesley. Running round between school, centre de losirs and after school activities. It's exhausting just thinking about it. I work fulltime so it's a real juggleing system.

Then you have to come home and eat, do homework, sleep, feed the goldfish etc....

We try and keep things to a minimum as it's just too much otherwise and it all has to fit into our budget and my working hours.

Not only that it cost a fortune. Leon opted for 2 things thi year:

Karate + 140.00 euros on a Saturday afternoon
Art + 210.00 euros on a Monday from 17h00 - 18h30

well, yes Pauline, by the time they reach the great age of 20 you will have forked out a great deal ...
last year two of mine reappeared to finish off their studies ... now a twenty six year old and a thirty year old ... à suivre
(I think they will get there in the end)!

Hi,

Thanks for leaving your comment on my Blog about the fabric store near IKEA (we don't actually "do" IKEA alot :-D ).

Lucky you to have sport and music minded children. I have offered daughter the chance to do dance, theatre, judo, karate or anything that take's her fancy! She is so knackered on Wednesday's at the moment that she has declined. Getting to the difficult age now and won't even watch Star Ac, having followed it religiously for the last 5 years.

Whereabouts in 24 does your MIL live?

Deborah: Am trying to encourage entrepreneurial spirit in both of them.

Pauline: 240€ for art lessons? Hmmm maybe I should enocurage one of mine to become a Wednesday afternoon art teacher :-)

D. Quilt: I love the idea of going to Ikea it's just the endless walking around that massive shed that I hate.
MIL lives near Savignac-les-Eglises.

Confinement

Being confined indoors most of the day, just the four of us, is reminding me of the days when my children were wee and most of our weekends ...
