It's my Birthday and I'll Cry if I Want To
Yes, it's my birthday today but this afternoon we're going to our friend Marie's funeral. She was only forty-five, a lovely person and a great mum to two super children. She died after a long and painful batte against cancer. So today I'm not going to complain about aging, I'm going to reflect on the fact that it is a privilege to grow older.

My condolences to you, Lesley...mixed with birthday wishes that on this day, you find many creative ways to celebrate the privilege of growing older - all in honor of Marie.
I'm so sorry, Lesley. I've recently been brought up short by seeing a friend who has deteriorated very rapidly with a neurological condition (degenerative, terminal). Alongside the grieving, the only possible response, really, is to get back out there and celebrate what we have while we have it -- so I hope you salvage some happy Birthday moments (altho'that might be tough to manage today -- take care of yourself).
It's beyond sad that she's so young. I will also endeavour to be grateful to age and be around for my children. I hope your birthday was some kind of happy. xx
Births and deaths. Health ought to be celebrated more. I'm right there with you about not complaining. (Japan, others....)
Sending empathy vibes to you for the loss of your friend and celebratory vibes for birthdays and another good, hopeful year.
Late I know, but sorry for your loss, and wishing you all good things for your next year of life.
Thank you all for your kind comments.
