I've never been to Burma, but I would like to be able to go one day. Click on the image and learn more about the campaign.

Confinement
Being confined indoors most of the day, just the four of us, is reminding me of the days when my children were wee and most of our weekends ...

Well, I was just there this year, and I shudder to think about what all the superkind people we met there are going through. Unfortunately and sorry to be cynical about it, I don't think any kind of petition or awareness action is really going to help.
The only thing I could think of that might make a difference is if everybody, and I mean everybody who wanted to show solidarity with the Burmese people actually went there and got arrested and tortured along with the locals. If thousands of foreigners suddenly showed up on the streets and offered to physically march alongside the protesters, and to physically suffer the consequences along with them as well, then maybe, *maybe*, the world governments would try to take some kind of action.
But I'm not willing to do it, even if I think it's right. Because there are other things, like taking care of my family, that are right too. It's complicated. I'd like to think that I'm the kind of person who would drop everything and go and help, even if that means getting tortured for the sake of making a point that someone else might understand. But I'm not. Are you?
Great job! FREE Burma!!!
Bush slammed the UN and the rulers of Myanmar in his UN speech last week.
The UN must do something, but they never use military force to fight.
That is a huge problem.
Illegal drug fortunes are a BIG part of this.

Beefking: I don't honestly think it will make a big difference either, but you never know, I'm thinking butterfly wing-flaps. Ordinary people create a fuss, politicians react, countries exert pressure, change happens. Something cynical in me wants to say react to your suggestion about actually going there and demonstrating by saying that that's what we have armies and the UN for, but you're right, and it sort of worked like that in the Spanish Civil War.
Mad person who left the second comment: Your utopia sounds like my hell. "You can never kill too much in the pursuit of utopia" isn't an absurd thought, it's stupidity.
